Oakhurst Community Garden Project
Mission: The Wylde Center, formerly known as the Oakhurst Community Garden Project, is a regional nonprofit organization that cultivates vibrant greenspaces and inspires communities of environmental stewards.
Vision:
- Engage youth, families and individuals in their environment and health within communities. Our organized programs, classes and events develop creative skills in sustainable urban living, organic gardening, health and nutrition.
- Serve as demonstration gardens, gathering spaces and wildlife habitats that are open for all to experience the potential of urban greenspace.
- Foster community engagement by promoting and collaborating on programs and projects that improve and protect the environment.
The OCGP serves as community garden, nature center, neighborhood meeting space and wildlife habitat and is open for all to experience the potential of urban green space. The Garden provides resources for people to take home and apply in other areas of their lives. In 2010, the OCGP expanded by one acre with the addition of Sugar Creek Garden and also adopted the Decatur Farm to School initiative into the organization.
